Hi, this is all about me, Felicity Dunn – the person behind the camera!!! Which is a Nikon by the way 😉
I’ve always had a fascination and passion for photography for as long as I can remember. My parents bought me my first camera when I was about 10 years old and it just grew from there. That was back in the days of film. You only had up to 36 shots on a roll and when you had used them all up you had to wait until they were developed, processed and printed before you could see what you had achieved. Oh the memories!!!
Back in March 2000 my life’s journey changed direction, I joined P&O’s Victoria as part of the on-board photography team and I haven’t looked back from there. I spent 3 wonderful years cruising the high seas on 3 different ships within the P&O Cruises (UK) fleet, seeing the world and getting paid to do a job that I loved. I was trained by (and worked alongside) some of the best people in the business in all aspects of photography and photo finishing. My style today is a blend of every one of them and I thank them all for their time and effort along the way.
On my return home to Australia I joined the team of photographers at a Sydney-based family portrait fundraising company. I still enjoyed the travel; only this time it was to child care centres and schools in Central and Western NSW. This position made me realise the true value of documenting family stories through photography. It is so rewarding to know that year after year I get to assist these families in capturing that moment in time for future generations. In 2006 I moved to another family portrait fundraising company where I continued to capture precious memories for families while raising valuable funds for communities until mid 2014.
In 2008 I decided to start my own photography business as I wanted to tell more sides of the family story than my family portrait fundraising work would allow me to. This decision has enabled me to specialise in family and children’s portraiture, and expand into the maternity and newborn photography market.
2011 opened up a whole new world to me. I became a Mum to Addison Olivia and a work from home Mum. I finally realised just how quickly children change and just how important it is to capture and document all of those little milestones and changes along the way.
2014 brought more changes for my family and my business. My husband is a member of the Australian Defence Force and he was posted to Brisbane for at least the next 3 years. So the best thing we could do for our family was to pack up and move with him. This was exciting and scary all at the same time. It basically means starting my business all over again. After being in Central West NSW for 11 years it was a big step out of my comfort zone. It was definitely a challenge but was one that I looked forward to. It meant that I had a whole new part of the world to explore and new families to meet. I am now based on Brisbane’s north side but I am willing to travel and explore our new city with you and your family.
I look forward to meeting you and being able to capture your moments for tomorrow’s memories.
